To Blog or to Press?

Posted on June 27th, 2007 in Uncategorized by

I first started blogging with Blogger and then started a number of blogs on Word Press: Roy Advertising, Crossniacs, and Bike Race Photos.

I didn’t know about Word Press at the time. I only knew about Blogger.  Blogger is a great blog platform for getting started. It is very easy to use and customize. And if you just want an online diary format, then Blogger is great. If you want to monetize your blog and be able to fully-customize it then I recommend moving to Word Press only if you are planning on hosting it somewhere else then at Word Press. Hosting it with Word Press with their free hosting service doesn’t allow you to customize and monetize.

With the recommendation from Single Grain Blog I went with Blue Host. They offer WordPress Auto-Install, 300 GB disk storage, FREE Domain Name, 2500 POP / WebMail addresses, 3000 GB/mo transfer, Host Unlimited Domains on 1 Account, 20 Subdomains, 50 mySQL databases, Free Control Panel, Free Fantastico, 24/7 Network Monitoring, 99% Uptime Guarantee, Mirrored Storage Backups. The WordPress Auto-Install with Fantastico allows you to seamlessly move your Word Press blog with a couple clicks.

So, if you are just getting started, give them both a try and see which one fits your needs.

Since I moved over to Word Press, hits have quadrupled in only about two weeks for one of my blogs. If you want exposure, there’s no question as to which one to go with. Sounds like hosting elsewhere is worth the investment once an audience is established.
